Puck No. 1,300

Just in case you couldn't (and/or didn't) find what NHL player signed the 1,300th puck of the collection, Tampa Bay's Kyle Wanvig, a player on the bubble for the Lightning's opening night roster, provided the latest milestone.

For the record, it was the Houston Aeros puck.

Wanvig, however, got a kick out of the Red Deer Rebels puck. I'm sure it brought back pleasant memories, as he won the Stafford Smythe Memorial Trophy for being named the most valuable player of the 2001 Memorial Cup championship. By defeating Val D'Or 6-5 in overtime, the Rebels won their first title.

Other players from the championship team include Colby Armstrong, Martin Erat, Boyd Gordon, Ross Lupaschuk, Doug Lynch, Justin Mapletoft and Jeff Woywitka. Red Deer was coached by Brent Sutter, now coaching the New Jersey Devils.

Where do you find your AHL pucks and the Red Deer Rebels? I want to get one for Cam and some of the guys up here to sign. So far I haven't found anything other than Ebay and team stores.

I'm still using the other site you posted for the NHL and event pucks. Very much appreciated.

Thanks

My puck supplier used to carry AHL pucks, but doesn't any longer. Any I have are a couple years old. I do know that the AHL's Web site (theahl.com) offers pucks, but you'll pay $5 each.

As for the Red Deer Rebels, I've ordered them over the phone directly from the team. In fact, I get all of my Western Hockey League pucks from the Rebels.

I use either the Saginaw Spirit or Erie Otters for Ontario Hockey League teams, such as the Peterborough Petes, where Eric Staal played as a junior.

For teams in the Q, I've ordered through the league's Web site (http://www.lhjmq.qc.ca/lang_en/index.php), but have found their supplier to be wicked slow when it comes to service. I'll probably call the Lewiston Maineiacs' team store when I need to replenish.

I use the American-based teams solely because it takes less time for shipping.

I also know that RiverCity Sports carries ECHL teams.

Hope this helps.

Good luck this season. we'll be seeing the 'Canes soon enough.
